Sexual & Reproductive Health
Cervical Cancer Screening (Pap Smears)
We provide trauma-informed pelvic exams including:
Anxiety medication where appropriate
Multiple speculum size options
Use of lubricant
Options for vaginal estrogen treatment prior to pap smear
Stirrup-free exams if desired
Consent-based exams
Cervical cancer screenings are recommended for all people with a cervix from ages 21 through 65. Cervical cancer screenings are done most typically between every 3 and 5 years. Early detection and treatment of abnormal cells in the cervix can reduce the risk of cervical cancer. Other tools to help prevent cervical cancer include the HPV vaccine. All people with a cervix need cervical cancer screening even if not sexually active.
Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing
We offer testing for the following sexually transmitted infections:
Chlamydia
Gonorrhea
Trich
Herpes
HIV
Syphilis
HPV
Mycoplasma
Ureaplasma
We perform three site testing (vagina, rectum, and throat) for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trich, and allow you to collect your own vaginal and rectal swabs.
We recommend testing every time you have a new partner or your partner has a new partner. For people who have multiple partners, engage in sex work, have anonymous partners, or have a partner with multiple partners, we recommend testing every 6 to 12 weeks. If you fall into these categories, you may also benefit from PrEP or DoxyPEP.
Birth Control & Emergency Contraception
We provide the following options for birth control:
Combined hormonal pills
Progesterone-only pills
Depo-Provera injections
Vaginal ring
Hormonal patch
We provide referrals for the following options for birth control:
IUD
Nexplanon
We provide the following options for emergency contraception:
Levonorgestrel (Plan B)
Ulipristal acetate (Ella)
Birth control is an important tool to control if and when you have children. Not every method is right for every person. Certain medical conditions, age, history of side effects, or other medications may interact with your desired form of birth control. Talk to your provider today about what options are best for you!
Emergency contraception is different from birth control, and is used to prevent unplanned pregnancy within 5 days of unprotected sex with a person who makes sperm. Emergency contraception is different from abortion pills because it prevents an egg from being released.
Menstrual (Period) Regulation
We treat the following menstrual conditions:
Premenstrual dysphoria disorder (PMDD)
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
Heavy or painful periods
We also stop undesired menstrual cycles even if not heavy or painful, if your menstrual cycles cause dysphoria, sensory issues, or worsen other conditions such as ADHD. It is not medically necessary to have menstrual cycles. It is safe to stop menstrual cycles.
Menstrual cycles can be made shorter, less painful, or stop all together with the following options:
Birth control pills
Progesterone
Testosterone injections, gel, or patches
Depo-provera injection
Nexplanon
IUD
Vaginal ring
Patch
Spironolactone (for people with PCOS)
Menopause treatments
We treat menopause with the following options:
Estrogen patches
Progesterone pills
Estrogen pills
Non-hormonal treatments for mood changes
Non-hormonal treatments for hot flashes
Non-hormonal treatments for insomnia
Vaginal estrogen
Referrals for pelvic floor physical therapy
In the past, it was thought that hormone therapy for menopausal people was unsafe. Hormone therapy for menopause is safe for many people, especially if you are under age 60 and within 10 years of stopping menstrual cycles. People with certain conditions such as a history of blood clots, heart disease, or certain kinds of cancer are not a good candidate for hormone therapy.
Even if you are not a candidate for hormone therapy, there are other medications that can help reduce the frequency or intensity of symptoms such as hot flashes, insomnia, mood changes, vaginal dryness, and other symptoms.
Medication Abortion
We provide medication abortion up to 10 weeks with the following medications:
Mifepristone
Misoprostal
We require labs or ultrasound after medication abortion to confirm effectiveness of the pills. We provide referrals for abortion after 10 weeks or if previous medication abortion was not successful.
We can dispense medication on site for those who do not want to go to a pharmacy to pick up medications. We will teach you about what to expect from medication abortion, side effects, and when to get additional healthcare.
DoxyPEP
We provide DoxyPEP to reduce the risk of bacterial sexually transmitted infections after unprotected sex. DoxyPEP reduces the risk of the following infections:
Chlamydia
Gonorrhea
Syphilis
DoxyPEP is a pill that needs to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. It works best if taken within 24 hours of unprotected sex. It has been studied in men who have sex with men and transgender women, but may be beneficial for other people.
Size Inclusivity in Sexual & Reproductive Health
We want to showcase our commitment to size inclusively and comfort by showing our four sizes of vaginal speculum available from extra small to large. We are happy to work with you to make a pelvic exam as comfortable as possible, and offer many other accommodations such as anxiety medication, numbing medicine, the option to use your own playlist, having a partner present, and more!
